I didn’t see the cat scamper past me, but I heard the broom fall to the floor as he did. His tail had just barely made it around the corner when I looked up. I took another sip of my soft drink, set the can on the table and picked up the broom. I put it behind the washing machine and sat back down to finish my pop. The TV was on mute, but the news was on and since I wanted to hear what was being said I walked over and turned the volume up on the TV. By that time Luisa had made her way inside carrying a bag of groceries and a smile. I asked what the smile was for. “I won $35,” she replied. “You did? How?” “On a scratch-off. Can you believe it? We’re going out for dinner tonight. Would you like that?” She said as she neatly folded the emptied paper sack and stored it in one of the bottom cupboards.
